market for traditional family cars. Let’s take a look at some of the cars that are recommended and which ones to avoid.

BWM i3

This car is super light and runs on electricity. Families can get around in comfort while doing their part to save the planet with a significantly reduced carbon footprint.

BMWi3

BMW 118i SE

A more conventional choice, this BMW offers excellent performance and is economical to run. It’s also super comfortable and looks great in white.

Honda Civic 1.0 VTec SR

Toyota Prius 1.8 VVTi Business Edition

The world’s top-selling hybrid car is not only for eco-warriors, it’s also comfortable to drive. Prius seems to be getting better with each version.

Vauxhall Astra 1.6 CDTi 110 Tech Line

Cheaper than a VW Golf and a better all-rounder than the Ford Focus, the Astra is one of the top picks as a family hatchback. It could be a bit more comfortable but is overall great value for money.

Seat Leon 1.0 TSI 115 SE Ecomotive

For a well-priced option, the Leon offers a strong engine and handles well on most road conditions. The only downside is that the interior feels a bit cheap. But for the price, it is well worth it!

Audi A3 Sportback

Comfortable, strong and efficient, a beautiful interior and super spacious — what more can you want? The A3 Sportsback is definitely the top choice in family hatchbacks. It is also surprisingly affordable.

VW Golf 1.0 TSI Match Bluemotion Edition

Comfortable, quiet and an absolute joy to drive. Although the Golf is not the cheapest option, it is economical to run and has a reasonable resale value, something most other options can’t boast about.

Skoda Octavia 1.4 TSI 150 SE

Practical, spacious and amazingly well-equipped for the price, the SE version offers cruise and climate control and rear parking sensors.

Which Family Cars to Avoid

With such an excellent range of good family cars to choose from, there is something for every type of family. Just be sure to steer clear of these cars:

DS 4

The design of the DS 4 may look like it’s on par with the Audi and BMW but it lacks in quality finishes inside and outside. Another issue is that the suspension is rigid which makes it a less comfortable ride.

Infiniti Q30

Although it’s a lot more comfortable than the DS 4, the Infiniti Q30 lacks in interior space and its engine leaves a lot to be desired.
